Like many other acts that have shows around the US during the warmer months, Hermann’s Royal Lipizzan Stallions winters in Florida. The horse farm where they breed, raise and…
train Lipizzans is southeast of Sarasota, FL in the Myakka City area.
The Lipizzan breed was preserved during War World II by General Patton when he rescued the horses captured by the Nazi’s. As a thank you to America some of the horses were sent to the US for breeding and training. The Hermann family has worked with these horses for several generations. The Lipizzan stallions were trained in classic dressage in the moves that gave the horses the moves needed to be war horses. Many of the extreme moves were taught to aid the officer riding to see on the battlefield and to defend himself.
The family trains riders and horses at their facility. They invite spectators to watch their training sessions on Thursday, Friday & Saturday. Check their website for details.
They will be building up to the 2016 show through April. If you are in the area I recommend you check it out.
See the Galleries for more images from the training session!
That is all for now!
