One morning Andy told us he wanted to take us to a restaurant that he and Dani had stopped in for coffee the last time they were in this part of MI. So we loaded up and headed for the Old World Cafe. This was the
first of three meals we would eat and throughly enjoy at this restaurant!
It was not super fancy on the outside or very big but the food, service and people were outstanding!
First breakfast
For our first breakfast, we arrived fairly early so there weren’t many folks there yet. It was a good thing, as there are not many tables. The hostess/waitress welcomed us and sat us at one of the tables that sit between two rows of booths.
Many people stopped in for coffee or tea that they served as take-out.
We looked around and it was like we were in an old world dining room.
There were oil paintings on the walls in golden frames, chandeliers, dark high back chairs and marble top tables.
At one end was a tall window and the other, a fireplace!
The Old World Cafe has a very European menu so I chose a charcuterie board that reminded me of my visit to Paris many years ago.
I complemented that with a class of Black Currant juice. Oh! so good!
Everything was so fresh and yummy! This breakfast made my day!
Second breakfast
We decided to come back for breakfast a couple of days later and I had to have the same thing again! Just a slight change of cheeses,
This time the hostess/waitress was not quite as busy so we were able to talk to her and get some info about this wonderful eatery!
The owners were from Europe and they had visited the area and fell in love with it. So they built the restaurant. The wife ran the restaurant while the husband ran his business during the week but would be there on the weekends. This is a seasonal town so they are only open part of the year.
We decided right then that we wanted to come back to meet the owners and try the dinner menu! We made reservations (needed since they are very busy on the weekends) and readied our taste buds for our next visit!
Dinner
We were greeted that evening by a very nice gentleman who was the owner. He asked us all where we were from and throughout the meal talked to us about our visit to Michigan and about our home cities. He went from table to table talking to all the patrons! We were told that the wife was busy cooking in the kitchen!
The dinner menu is not long but the dishes are very different from normal American style fare!
I ordered the Soup of the Day and Filet de Beouf!
Both dishes were so good, it was incredible! I was so full but I just had to have dessert! I chose the lighter vanilla ice cream with berry sauce.
What a way to finish off a delicious meal!
All of my friends were also very happy with the meals they ordered.
We all enjoyed the ambiance and the repartee with the owner and his energetic hostess/waitress!
I very highly recommend that you stop by the wonderful Old World Cafe if you are in the Harbor Springs area or driving the Tunnel of Trees along Lake Michigan. Be sure to check their website though to make sure they are open and to make reservations.

That is all for now! My final Michigan post will be about our visit to Mackinaw Island!
