Our next adventure took us back to Arches National Park. We hoped for some good late afternoon and sunset light at Skyline Arch.
When we arrived at the parking area for Skyline Arch, we gathered our gear, took the steps up away from the road, and followed the path toward the arch. As we made our way across some level ground I made a quick image of Skyline Arch but the light was still too harsh and the sky was kind of meh!
As we got closer to the arch we found that there had been a rock fall along the path but found our way through a convenient slot canyon.
As I came around the huge rocks I saw there would be a lot to shoot in this area.
As usual, I was drawn to the shady spots that still had some snow!
I noticed the sky was starting to get a bit more cloudy so I pulled out my wide-angle lens to get a bit more rock and sky!
As I walked back in the direction of the road I noticed the sky was getting really dramatic.
As I looked around I once again saw some snow-covered mountains in the distance. With the setting sun coloring up the sky this ended up being one of my favorite images!
As we walked back toward the road to get a wider view of the sunset I just had to get the classic winding road image!
As the sun was setting I turned around to get a much better image of Skyline Arch with a bit of color in the sky!
I tried a few spots looking west but finally found a lone tree and an interesting rock “face” to give my sunset image out across the landscape a bit more interest!
It was time to head back to the hotel, get some dinner and do some downloading! I forgot to mention that I had forgotten to bring my XQD card reader so after panicking for about 30 minutes that first day and finding that no one else used that type of card, I realized that I could use my Nikon D850 as a card reader! It has 2 card slots (which the Nikon Z7 or Z6 do not have) so I could copy from the XQD card onto the 2nd slot’s SD card and then I could use the SD reader I had to copy the images to my hard drives! Wooo that was a close one! Note: I now have several XQD/SD and CF-Express card readers! Lesson learned!
I highly recommend a stop at Skyline Arch for that late afternoon sunlight and sunset.

My next blog will be about our very, very early morning visit to Broken Arch and The Fins.
That is all for now!
